Miss/Match Day

All Classrooms celebrated Miss/Match Day Friday, January 19th. Children came in all sorts of Miss/Match outfits. It was a creative and fun day where the children loved showing off just how mismatched they could be, even if it was just their socks or shoes! The children that didn't dress up had a fun time talking about what it means to be miss/matched and talking about what friends had dressed in miss/match! When it came time for pictures - many wanted to join in!

A Bootastic Halloween at Club Fed!

Happy Halloween from the children of Club Fed! The costumes this year were creepy, cute, and creative! All the children dressed up and said "Trick-Or-Treat!" in their best spooky voices around the building. Afterwards, parents and children joined us for a party with lots of treats to celebrate Halloween!

Field Trip to the Fire Station

Camp Mighty Redwood and Camp Laurel Oak went on a field trip to the Arbor Hill Fire Station this week. There they learned about fire safety and got to see all of the equipment that the firefighters use when they work to keep us safe. They saw the firetrucks, got to sit inside one and experience what it was like to be a firefighter! They also got to see the clothes and special equipment firefighters wear! It was a great extension of our community helpers learning unit and was a fun time had by all!

Pumpkins, Butterflies, and Train Rides Oh My!

The children of Camp Mighty Redwood and Camp Laurel Oak went on a field trip to Sunnyside Gardens last week. They had a blast pumpkin picking, riding the train, and seeing the butterflies! They also brought pumpkins back for the other classrooms at Club Fed who have all had a great time exploring the pumpkin. We are now ready to see and feel what's inside, bake pumpkin seeds, paint with pumpkin tops, make Jack-O-Laterns, and even do science experiments with the pumpkins! It will be a month long fun learning unit!

Summer Where Did You Go?

As the days get shorter and the weather gets cooler we all start to miss summer a little. We also miss all the fun and learning that happened this summer. We went on field trips, had our end of the year play, learned about space and dinosaurs, explored watermelon, had a carnival, and said goodbye those friends going off to Kindergarten! We aren't sad though because we are all excited for the new adventures we have begun!

A Way Back Wednesday!

Here is a look back at all the fun we have had this spring and so far this summer! It has been filled with family, friends, fun, and of course lots of learning! We had field trips, celebrated NAEYC Week of the Young Child, Earth Day, and of course celebrated our parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles!

And Just Like That, 2016 is Over!

With the end of 2016 came one of our favorite events at Club Fed - Santa's annual visit. The children were so excited to see him and had fun as he gave out candy canes to all the children. We hope all the parents enjoyed the Christmas ornament and that they will decorate trees for many years to come. Thank you to all of the parents who attended, it was great fun!

St Nicholas Day

We began learning about how children all around the world celebrate traditions with St. Nicholas Day. We have been exploring how different cultures celebrate family, togetherness, and giving thanks. The traditions we are learning about include Hanukkah, St. Lucia Day, Christmas, Kwanzaa, and others in between! The children really enjoy learning about the traditions other families and children take part in during this time of year!

A Giving Celebration

Thank you to all the parents, sibling, grandparents, and aunts and uncles that joined us to celebrate what we are thankful for. We are certainly thankful for all of you! The children worked hard all week baking to share what they had made with their families and friends. It was a fun event had by all and the children enjoyed having everyone in their classrooms to celebrate together!

H-A-LL-O-W-EE-N Spells Halloween!

Happy Halloween from the children of Club Fed! The costumes this year were creepy, cute, and creative! All the children dressed up and said "Trick-Or-Treat!" in their best spooky voices around the building. Afterwards, parents and children joined us for a party with lots of treats to celebrate Halloween Thank you to all the parents and agencies that participated in and provided snacks and candy for the spook-tacular Halloween event this year! A special thank you to Pam, Nick, and the team from HSI who made beautiful mini cupcakes for all the children at Club Fed - they were delicious!

Out and About in October

October was a busy month for the children at Club Fed. We explored the outside as the leaves changed, had fun learning about pumpkins, and continued our curriculum on Community Helpers and the Community around us. The children of Camp Mighty Redwood and Camp Laurel Oak went on a field trip to Sunnyside Gardens earlier this month. They had a blast pumpkin picking, riding the train, and seeing the butterflies! They also brought pumpkins back for the other classrooms at Club Fed who have all had a great time exploring the pumpkin. They have seen and felt what's inside, baked pumpkin seeds and had them for snack, painted with pumpkin tops, made Jack-O-Lanterns, and even created science experiments with the pumpkins! It has been a month long fun learning unit! Camps Mighty Redwood and Laurel Oak went on a field trip to the Arbor Hill Fire Station. There they learned about fire safety and got to see all of the equipment that the firefighters use when they work to keep us safe. They saw the firetrucks, got to sit inside one and see what it was like, they practiced bandaging friends up, and they got to see the clothes and special equipment firefighters wear! It was a fun time had by all! Officer Perfetti came to Club Fed to talk to the children about Police Officers and all of the important work they do in the community. She supported our curriculum which we have been working on this month around Community Helpers. Camps Mighty Redwood and Laurel Oak even went out to see the police car! With our November curriculum beginning and having a large focus on Transportation, we had Otto the Auto come visit us at Club Fed to teach us about traffic and overall car safety. Otto the Auto is sponsored by AAA and it is a favorite annual event for the children. Thank you also to Mike Sweeney who is the voice of Otto and brings him back every year!

Summer of Fun!

As summer quickly comes to an end, we can look back and see all the fun had at Club Fed! We had sprinkler fun, swim lessons, trips to the Planetarium, history walks, the Annual Play, a Play Hard! Eat Right! program, a Carnival, and ice cream days, to name a few. Thank you to all of our families who have worked with us to have such a successful summer of learning and fun! As the days get chillier we look forward to the learning that will happen this year and the new adventures the Club Fed children get to embark on!
