Dental Health Day at VCC, Inc.

A Dental Hygienist and her helper, Rosie the Dog, from Albany Pediatric Dental is coming to VCC, Inc. to teach the children about dental health and why it is important to keep your teeth clean. She is coming to enrich our February Curriculum that focuses partly on Dental Hygiene and to remind the children about keeping up with their healthy teeth habits! She will be starting at Altamont Elementary School at 9:15am, will then go to Pine Bush Elementary School at 10:00am, and will finish at Farnsworth Middle School at 11:00am.

Week of the Young Child

We will be celebrating with NAEYC this year. We will do Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday, Artsy Thursday, and Family Friday. We will also be inviting mystery readers to come in all week long, this can be parents, grandparents, siblings, etc. Bring your favorite book from home to share or pick one of ours! Watch for sign-ups in each classroom as we get closer. Each classroom will also be making their own classroom book, this book will celebrate families and what they do at home together. Each family will be asked to make a page together at home and bring it in to help make the book. We will then read it together during the Family Friday celebration. And there will be posters outside of each classroom, so that you can write to your child’s teacher a note of appreciation of their fine work with your child.  It will be an exciting week for all! Finally, we will celebrate our children that have read 100 books since September. 100 books certifications will be handed out and those children will receive special recognition for their efforts. If your family has made sure that your children read 120 books on your own (without the use of our lending library), please let us know so that we can celebrate their achievement too!

Earth Day Celebration

In the morning the children will be participating in a clean-up of our outside space. The classroom teachers recycle with the children almost daily but we will really be focusing on our Earth and why it is important to keep it clean! Come in and check out our recycled art projects we have been working on!

Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Celebration

Starting at 3:00pm we will have a center wide Easter Egg Hunt! Each classroom will go outside and the children will find hidden Easter Eggs. We will then all come back inside for a family make-and-take and Easter Celebration. All families are encouraged and welcome to attend!

Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa is a Pan-African holiday which celebrates family, community and culture. Kwanzaa begins on the 26th of December and continues until the 1st of January. During the week of Kwanzaa the children will learn about the cultural significance of the holiday, such as the meaning of the three colors of Kwanzaa (black, red, and green) and the traditions that take place during it.

Hanukkah

Hanukkah is a Jewish celebration, also know as the Feast of Dedication. This year Hanukkah begins the evening of December 24th and continues until the evening of January 1st. Throughout the school week during Hanukkah, the children will learn about the cultural significance of the holiday and the Jewish traditions that take place during it, such as the lighting of the Menorah!

St. Lucia Day

St. Lucia Day is a Christian day of feast, also known as the Festival of Lights. This day is celebrated on the 13th of December. Throughout the day, the children will be engaging in arts and crafts activities, such as making hats, as part of the celebration!
